据路透社报道，捷蓝航空（JetBlue Airways）计划以38亿美元收购超低成本航空精神航空（Spirit Airlines），这会导致票价上涨和航班减少，美国政府试图在反垄断审判上阻止这笔交易，目的在于维护低成本航空公司之间的竞争，确保更多美国消费者仍能负担得起机票。
美国司法部律师马克尔表示:“捷蓝航空希望取消精神航空和其带来的竞争，从而提高捷蓝航空的票价。”一份内部分析显示，捷蓝航空进入多个市场，对整个行业产生了压低价格的影响。
这两家航空公司加起来在美国国内市场中所占份额不到8%，这四家美国航空公司——美联航、美国航空、达美航空和西南航空——控制着80%的市场。
捷蓝航空称该交易有利于消费者，并试图通过同意出售精神航空在纽约、波士顿、纽瓦克和劳德代尔堡某些机场的登机口和机位，来缓解美国监管机构的反垄断担忧。但司法部表示，这些资产剥离是不够的，并于今年3月提起诉讼，要求阻止这笔交易。
